Cómo decir raro en inglés

Con motivo de la conmemoración del Día de las Enfermedades Raras, en este artículo te voy a explicar cuatro formas diferentes de traducir la palabra raro al inglés. Primero te lo explico en inglés y después en español, por si en algún momento te pierdes algo importante. También te dejo el vídeo con la explicación para que entrenes tu oído hoy 😉.

First of all let me tell you that you should be very careful when using these words and use them in the right context.

Lo primero de todo déjame decirte que debes tener mucho cuidado cuando uses estas palabras e intentar usarlas en el contexto correcto.

WORD #1: STRANGE

The first word I’d like to talk about is the word strange. This  term is the most common of the four possible translations of the word raro because it is the most neutral and general term. The word strange means that something is out of the ordinary and it usually doesn’t have any type of connotation, negative or positive.

La primera palabra de la que te voy a hablar es la palabra strange. Este término es el más común de  las cuatro posibles traducciones de la palabra raro porque es el más neutral y general. La palabra strange significa que algo se sale de la norma y habitualmente no tiene ningún tipo de connotación, ni positiva ni negativa.

WORD #2: ODD

The second word that can be translated as raro is the word odd.  This word is often used to describe something that is different among a series of other things, something that doesn’t belong in the place, something that shouldn’t be there because it’s different.

La segunda palabra que puede  traducirse como raro es la palabra odd. Esta palabra se usa normalmente para describir algo que es diferente dentro de una serie de cosas, algo que no está en el lugar correcto, algo que no debería estar ahí porque es diferente.

WORD #3: WEIRD

In the third place we have the word weird. You should be really careful when using this term because it has a really negative connotation, and it usually refers to something  that has something wrong, or someone who behaves the way they shouldn’t. So I would recommend you to be extremely  sure when using this word to refer to someone or to describe someone because it can be a tremendously offensive word.

En tercer lugar tenemos la palabra weird. Mi recomendación es que tengas mucho cuidado cuando utilices este término porque tiene una connotación muy negativa y normalmente se refiere a algo que está mal o a alguien que se comporta de una manera en la que no debería comportarse. Por eso te recomiendo  asegurarte muy bien a la hora de usar esta palabra para referirte a alguien o para describir a alguien porque puede ser un término tremendamente ofensivo.

WORD #4: RARE

Finally let’s talk about the word rare. This term covers a different meaning of the word of raro. It refers to something or someone  so different that is unique. something that is so special that needs to be appreciated.

That’s why we use this term when talking about enfermedades raras  because they are unique, they are special and unusual. 

Por último vamos a hablar de la palabra rare. Este término cubre otro significado diferente de la palabra raro. Hace referencia a algo o alguien que es tan diferente que llega al punto de ser único, algo especial y digno de apreciar.

Es por esto por lo que usamos este término cuando hablamos de enfermedades raras porque son enfermedades únicas, son especiales por ser poco habituales.
